The music of three musical giants - Beethoven, Schumann and 20th Century master Elliott Carter - is celebrated in this program of great masterworks. Dazzling young pianist Andrew von Oeyen is featured in Beethoven's youthful and fiery Piano Concerto No. 1, and the BSO string section performs Carter's nostalgic Elegy. Rogert Schumann's masterful symphonic portrait of the Rhine closes this stirring program.

A 100th Birthday Salute to Leroy Anderson February 2, 2008 Catherine Wilson, piano From Blue Tango and The Syncopated Clock to Sleigh Ride and The Typewriter - no composer has done more to advance the art of orchestral miniatures than Leroy Anderson.
The BSO celebrates Anderson's musical legacy and observes the 100th anniversary of his birth with a performance featuring Anderson's greatest hits and lots of surprises. Canadian pianist and Anderson aficionado Catherine Wilson brings Anderson's seldom-heard Piano Concerto to the King Center stage - and the BSO is honored to present the Florida premier of a previously unpublished Anderson composition!

Soprano Esther Hardenbergh and Baritone Anthony Offerle join the BSO and the Brevard Community College Chorus for a special performance of one of the most gloriously radiant, intimate, reflective and peaceful compositions ever written, Gabriel Faure's Requiem.
The low strings of the orchestra, along with the BSO's fabulous woodwind section, are featured in the sunny and lyrical Serenade No. 2 of Johannes Brahms.

Our 54th season comes to a colorful close with a spectacular program of Russian masterworks. The celebration begins with Rimsky-Korsakov's festive Russian Easter Overture and continues as we welcome violinist Sheryl Staples back to our stage for a performance of Prokofiev's brilliant and beautiful Violin Concerto No. 2. The concert concludes with the romantic Symphony No. 2 of Vassili Kalinnikov - a composer widely praised by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, but virtually unkonwn to audiences today.

An Evening with Marvin Hamlisch Friday, February 22, 2008 8:00 pm $125*, $75, $50, $35 Order your tickets early for a spectacular evening with Marvin Hamlisch and the BSO! The program will include selections from Mr. Hamlisch's body of work; he will also pay tribute to several notable composers of both Broadway and Hollywood. The program will be performed by Marvin Hamlisch and accompanied by the BSO.
As a composer, Hamlisch has won virtually every major award that exists: three Oscars, four Grammys four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards; his groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, won the Pulitzer Prize. Some of his most recognizable compositions include his Oscar-winning score and song for The Way We Were and his adaptation of Scott Joplin's music for The Sting, for which he received a third Oscar. His prolific output of scores for fims include original compositions and/or musical adaptations for Sophie's Choice, Ordinary People, The Swimmer, Three Men and a Baby, Ice Castles, Take the Money and Run, Bananas and Save the Tiger.
