The celebration begins with Rimsky-Korsakov's festive Russian Easter Overture and continues as we welcome violinist Sheryl Staples back to our stage for a performance of Prokofiev's brilliant and beautiful Violin Concerto No. 2. The concert concludes with the romantic Symphony No. 2 of Vassili Kalinnikov - a composer widely praised by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, but virtually unkonwn to audiences today. |

The program will include selections from Mr. Hamlisch's body of work; he will also pay tribute to several notable composers of both Broadway and Hollywood. The program will be performed by Marvin Hamlisch and accompanied by the BSO. |

As a composer, Hamlisch has won virtually every major award that exists: three Oscars, four Grammys four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards; his groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, won the Pulitzer Prize.
Some of his most recognizable compositions include his Oscar-winning score and song for The Way We Were and his adaptation of Scott Joplin's music for The Sting, for which he received a third Oscar. His prolific output of scores for fims include original compositions and/or musical adaptations for Sophie's Choice, Ordinary People, The Swimmer, Three Men and a Baby, Ice Castles, Take the Money and Run, Bananas and Save the Tiger.
