LISA FERRIGNO, Concertmaster
Lisa Ferrigno has served as Concertmaster of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra for eleven seasons. A native of New England, she received her early musical training at the New England Conservatory and holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and The Florida State University. Ms. Ferrigno has appeared frequently as soloist with the Brevard Symphony. She has also performed concertos with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Trujillo and Orquesta Camara del Festival Internacional Bach in Perú, as well as with the Florida Symphony and Orlando Philharmonic Orchestras. As a chamber musician and recitalist, Ms. Ferrigno has performed in festivals throughout the United States and internationally in Perú, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Germany.
Ms. Ferrigno’s recent performances include a solo recital at Festimusica in Trujillo, Perú, a trio recital in Georgia with faculty members of Florida State and Albany State Universities, a chamber music recital with members of the Brattleboro Music Center faculty in Brattleboro, Vermont, and a performance in Marlboro, Vermont with the Brattleboro Concert Choir and Festival Orchestra.
Ms. Ferrigno was a member of the Rochester Philharmonic and Florida Symphony Orchestras and Concertmaster of the Orlando Philharmonic from 1993-2003. She is a frequent guest Concertmaster of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Trujillo in Perú and has served as Concertmaster of the Heidelberg Castle Opera Festival in Germany, Principal Second Violinist of the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra, and Principal Second Violinist of the Palm Beach Pops. Ms. Ferrigno continues to serve as Concertmaster of the Walt Disney World Orchestra, a position she has held since 1996.
Ms. Ferrigno’s recording credits include Joyous Violin, a collection of romantic music for violin and piano on the Madacy label. She can be heard as soloist with the Orlando Philharmonic in music from “Schindler’s List” on the Madacy albums John Williams: A Night at the Movies and John Williams: The Dream Goes On.
In addition to her performances in Florida, Ms. Ferrigno is an administrator, teacher, and conductor at the Brattleboro Music Center in Vermont.

CAREY MOORMAN, Principal Second Violin Carey Moorman serves as Principal Second Violinist with the Brevard Symphony as well as performing with the Orlando Philharmonic and Orlando Opera. Positions before moving to Florida include serving as Assistant Concertmaster with the Fort Smith Symphony, Principal Second Violinist with the Conway Symphony, and as Assistant Concertmaster with the Pine Bluff Symphony, as well as Tenured Violinist with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, South Arkansas Symphony, the Wildwood Opera Festival, and the Pinnacle Players Chamber Orchestra. |

SUSAN BEARDEN, Principal Viola
Susan M. Bearden has been Principal Violist of the BSO since 1999. She joined the BSO in 1997 as Assistant Principal Viola after 2 years with the Jacksonville Symphony. In addition to performing with the BSO she has a busy freelance career and several private students. She also works as the Applications and Web Administrator for Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Melbourne.
Ms. Bearden holds Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts (English) degrees from Oberlin College and Conservatory , a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and an Associate of Science Degree in Information Technology from Brevard Community College. Her teachers have included Heidi Castleman, Eliot Chapo, Jeffrey Irvine, Martha Katz, and Lynne Ramsey. She has recorded for Opus One records as a member of the Sierra Quartet and is a former Aspen Music Festival Fellow.

JOAN MARKSTEIN, Principal Cello Joan Markstein, a native of Chicago, Brevard Symphony Orchestra Principal Cellist, started her musical studies at age four with her parents, pianists Harry and Thalia Davidson. Cellos studies followed later under Chicago Symphony cellist Don Moline. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, holding Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Cello Performance, Joan’s principal teachers include cellists Lee Fiser, Lynn Harrell, and Peter Wiley. A former Principal Cellist with the Thunder Bay Symphony in Ontario, Cancada, Joan has served as cello instructor at Lakehead University, Canada, and at the UCF. Currently, in addition to her duties with the BSO, Joan teaches many private cello students, and instructs cello at Brevard Community College, Cocoa. |
